The English have established their dominance in this series, and the Dutch will have to think hard before their next match. This is a game that will go down in history. On Sunday, June 19th, the second One-Day International will be played. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. IST (9:00 am GMT).
England had been allowed to bat first earlier in the day, and they put on an incredible performance! They lost Jason Roy in the second over, but they were all over the Netherlands after that. The centuries of Philip Salt, Jos Buttler, and Dawid Malan were all mentioned. Jos Buttler went on to smash an unbeaten 162 off 70 balls in the second innings. In his innings, he blasted 14 sixes and seven fours for a strike rate of almost 230! Liam Livingstone hit a blazing 66 off 22 balls to lead England to a 498-run total, which is now the greatest ODI total ever. In their innings, they hit 26 sixes and 36 fours. Philippe Boissevain was the most expensive bowler in the Netherlands. In his ten-over spell, he conceded 108 runs, narrowly missing out on the record for most runs conceded in one-day international cricket. In response, five of the Netherlands hitters got off to a good start, but none of them went on to make it big, leaving Scott Edwards and the tail-enders all alone. The Netherlands performed well to achieve a score of 266, which isn’t awful at all, but it does appear to be a mole in front of the mountain.
The Netherlands was having a bad day! Their performance left them feeling quite disappointed. They lost Vikramjit Singh early on when they batted, but Max O’Dowd and Musa Ahmad scored easily and showed some boldness. Before Musa Ahmad died, the tandem had scored 80 runs. Max O’Dowd finished his half-ton and left shortly after. The Dutch hitters showed little intent after he was dismissed. They kept their wickets, but the runs were not coming in. As a result, the needed run-rate has continued to rise. They lost wickets in a heap near the end. Scott Edwards put in a lot of effort in the middle. He struck an undefeated 72, but there were simply too many runs to pursue in the end.
Eoin Morgan, England’s captain, believes it’s nice to be back, and that having the majority of the older players on board has helped. It’s encouraging to see Salt and Malan play as well as they did, and seeing Buttler is great. It’s amazing to witness the players’ hunger, and no one takes anything for granted, says the coach. Finally, they say they don’t take days like these for granted; they’ve worked hard and are pleased with how they performed.
At the end, England triumphed emphatically! They’ve won the game and are now up 1-0 in the series. The job of chasing a target of nearly 500 points was always going to be difficult for Netherlands. For the hosts, however, it was a day to remember. After this historic triumph, England has now earned ten crucial ICC Super League points!
